Etiology of Schizophobia (Symptoms of Schizophobia)

According to Professor E.Bogby: 1928, A condition of having irrational extrem fears”.

Nervous symptoms: The person also faces headache, faintness, increase in pulse movement, fatigue and also low blood pressure.

Hunger & Sleep: These two motives are lessened and the weight decreases.

Hallucinations: The person feels different type of irrational fears like he is being attacked by someone or he is afraid that lest he would attack someone.

Physical existance: The fear of such situations that physically exist in society. Like he is not afraid of being attacked by the moon, or he is not afraid of being killed by the mountain or sun etc. But instead he is afraid from the real situations and real person.

Causes of Schizophobia:

1- Segmund Freud says in his book “Introductory Lectures” in which he has discussed Schizophobia detailed, “These fears are concerned with a specific condition and being present in such situation, he feels that fear automatically”.

2-Its main cause is any mishappening of childhood that he can never forget. He consciously feels fear of such type of people or situations.

3-Any mishappening of childhood that he ignored for the time being, becomes very strong and unconsciously he feels fear of such type of people or situations. Davison & Neil 1998 say: “Phobias are defence against the anxiety produced by Id impulses”

4- Undoing Mechanism: If the person has done something wrong with any person like any injustice or any immoral act, his conscience pricks him again and again for that immoral act.

5- Modelling: If the person idealise someone and that ideal person is suffering any type of phobia, the person who is idealising automatically gets that phobia in himself.

6- Cognitive Theories: Mathews & Macleod 1994: He feels fear because he pays much attention at negative stimulous and he gets sure that mostly the negative incidents will happen in future rather than the positive incidents. He becomes partially pessimist.

7- Biological factors: According to some experts, the people affected by stress have some biological malfunction that causes Schizophobia. It includes genetic, harmonic and inheritance problems.

Treatment of Schizophobia:

Psycho Analysis:

The uncouscious desires or fears of that person are brought to the Conscious level from the uncouscious level with Indirect Methods like Free Association and Dream Analysis. In this way the symptoms of Schizophobia are removed.

Behaviour Modification:

By applying it, some positive changes are brought in a person’s attitude in which we can include Desensitization

Desensitization means To bring that fearful situation or person, before the patient persistantly to remove his phobia and stress. In this way when he experience that situation again and again, he releases his stress or phobia.

Implosion or Flooding:

By adopting this method, that fearful situation or person shown to the patient quite suddenly and the patient feels anxiety immediately but when he feels that fearful situation or person is not harmful for him, his anxiety automatically vanishes. But this Method of Treatment is quite risky because if he is deadly scaraed of that fearful object, he might face deadly effects.

Hypnosis:

Hypnotism is used for the treatment of Schizophobia but this method of treatment is also very risky as the patient can have the more critical condition if the hypnotism is not successfully done. The after effects of hypnotism can be very much harmful. So only the experts can use this method successfully.

Medication:

Usually Tranquilizers are used for the treatment of patient that is a temporary solution. That is not permanent.

Aftermaths

Aftermaths of the above discussion is that Schizophobia is a very common type of disease that can lead us towards the serious mental ailments like Psychosis. Shortly it is a conflict between Id and Ego. For a treatment, we need to have a very experienced psychiatrist with thorough knowledge of it. According to the famous psychiatrists Devison & Neil, its percentage in male is 7% and in females 16%.

According to the renowned psychologist Magee 1996, Non-English people have more ratio of this disease rather than the English people.
